Fivestars' loyalty app existed to get people into physical stores — small businesses where customers could redeem rewards in person. When lockdown made that impossible, the app sat mostly unused. Rather than let it die, Fivestars made a bet: repurpose the neglected app to help users navigate the one thing they still needed — food delivery, at a time when fees from DoorDash, UberEats, Postmates, and others were the only way to get food without contact, and often the only thing standing between users and a meal.
